HRT: Relief, Restoration, and a Structured Plan

Interview with Meghan O’Donnell, MD | Revitalize HRT & Wellness

Many women seeking HRT are not looking for a quick prescription. They are looking for clarity, structure, and a plan. At Revitalize HRT & Wellness, physician Meghan O’Donnell, MD, brings both traditional medical training and advanced hormone certification to guide women through perimenopause, menopause, and hormone imbalance with a comprehensive, personalized approach.

What kinds of transformations do women typically see when they commit to a structured HRT and wellness program?

Our goal is to get you back to you. Back to doing what you used to love but don’t feel capable of right now. Sometimes even beyond that — doing more than you’ve ever been able to do before.

The most meaningful improvements often start with sleep. Falling asleep. Staying asleep. Restoring solid, continuous hours of rest and waking up feeling restored, energetic, focused, and motivated. That alone can change everything. Women often regain stamina — the energy to exercise and move through their day without dragging themselves through it. And just as important, the ability to recover. Not feeling like one workout costs you two days of pain and exhaustion.

Mood balance is another major transformation. Many women describe feeling like they’re not themselves — crying unexpectedly, feeling irritable or reactive, struggling with motivation or joy. When hormones are balanced appropriately, that emotional volatility often settles. There is a return to stability and a sense of overall well-being.

Ultimately, it’s a sense of normalcy returning. Life feels manageable again. Feeling like yourself.

How is a structured HRT program different from simply being prescribed a patch and sent on your way?

Structure brings relief. Many women feel overwhelmed. They’ve been trying supplements, researching online, listening to podcasts, piecing together information, and throwing spaghetti at the wall. A structured program creates clarity. There are steps. There is a plan. Someone is paying attention.

This is not a “treat and street” model. It’s not about fitting someone into a standard grid of what’s considered normal. It’s about being heard.

A lot of women have already spoken to their doctors about how they’re feeling and have been told, “This is normal.” If they’re still having periods, they’re told nothing is wrong. If they’ve stopped having periods, they’re told it’s a natural transition and to get through it.

For decades, women were essentially told that menopause isn’t a disease and it won’t kill you — so you just endure it. But that mindset ignores quality of life and long-term health.

You don’t have to suffer through a third of your life.

HRT, when used appropriately, isn’t just about hot flashes. Hormones affect the liver, heart, bones, brain, metabolism, and the immune system. It’s all integrated. When hormones decline, those systems are impacted. When balanced thoughtfully and at the right time in the right person, HRT can improve quality of life and may reduce long-term risk of conditions like osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and cognitive decline.

There are nuances. There are safety considerations. But much of the fear surrounding HRT comes from outdated interpretations of research. For the most appropriate candidates, there are significant benefits when therapy is properly individualized and monitored.

Who are the women who benefit most from working with you for HRT?

The women who benefit most are ready.

They have symptoms. They don’t feel well. It’s that time of life, and hormone imbalance is likely playing at least a partial role. They are ready to explore it thoroughly.

They have goals. They don’t like where they see themselves heading, and they can visualize where they want to be instead. They’re motivated to participate in the process.

They’re also willing to look at lifestyle — stress, sleep habits, nutrition, movement — and understand how those factors interact with hormones. HRT is powerful, but it works best when it’s part of a comprehensive approach.

This is for women who want to take control back. Not just dull symptoms. Not just survive the transition. But optimize, balance, and move forward intentionally.

How does working inside an established medical practice strengthen your approach to HRT for women?

Being part of an existing medical practice adds an important layer of depth.

We see every day how hormone and metabolic balance impact joint pain, inflammation, recovery, and overall physical function. Many women assume their joint aches or “arthritis” are simply a result of aging. But hormonal decline itself can contribute to inflammation, stiffness, and poor recovery.

It’s rarely one system in isolation. It’s not just hormones, or just joints, or just metabolism. It’s integrated. That broader medical lens allows us to ask better questions. Is this purely orthopedic? Is this inflammatory? Is this metabolic? Is this hormonal? Often, it’s a combination. Addressing hormone balance can meaningfully improve symptoms that women didn’t realize were connected.
